Frequently Asked Questions
Drain Cleaning & Plumbing Repair Services for Bryan and College Station, TX

  • What are the warning signs of a blockage?
    • Problems with multiple drains in your home
    • A sewage smell is rising from drains or toilet
    • Abnormal plumbing behavior like the washing machine drains and causes soapy water to come up in your shower or tub
    • Gurgling or bubbling from drains, pipes, or toilets

  • How can I prevent clogs?

To start, use a strainer in your tub or shower to catch hair and soap pieces. Do not put any cooking oil or meat fats down the drain, as they can solidify. Avoid flushing or rinsing away the following:

    • ‘Flushable’ wipes
    • Cooking oil or grease
    • Automotive oils
    • Solid foods
    • Paper towels
    • Cotton balls
    • Feminine products

  • I didn’t put those things down the drain, why did it clog?

Even tiny particles such as residue, hair, oil, and soap can get down your drain and form buildup.  When these accumulate, they can slow drains and even completely clog them.

  • How can I maintain my drains between service?

Once a month you can do an easy drain cleaning using this boiling water technique:

    • Pour a pot of the boiling water down the drain
    • Follow up with ½ a cup of baking soda and let it sit for 5 minutes
    • Pour in a combination of 1 cup of boiling water and 1 cup of vinegar, allowing the reaction to foam for 15 minutes
    • Finally, pour another pot of the boiling water down the drain

  • Multiple drains in my house are flowing very slowly. How do I unclog them?

If there are multiple drain issues, it’s possible you have a serious blockage in your main sewer or septic line and should call for professional service.

  • I dropped something down the drain, what should I do?

First things first, do not run the water. It is the worst thing that you can do at this point. If you can’t see the item or retrieve it yourself, call for service as soon as possible.

  • I have a fruit fly problem; does it have something to do with my drain?

Yes. All of your plumbing should have water traps which form a seal by holding a little bit of water in the U-shaped bend. This bend keeps smells and other things from coming up through your pipes, but larvae could be living in the standing water. Flush them out by putting a few gallons of hot water and a little bleach down any drains that have fruit flies nearby.

  • Do I have to hire a professional plumber for repairs?

Yes. As your home’s plumbing and drainage system is a complex, delicate, and an integral part of your household, it is never recommended to take on any serious plumbing repairs on your own. Using improper equipment, or even proper equipment in the wrong hands, can turn a blockage into damaged pipe or a broken drain system. Always call in a professional for plumbing repairs, replacements, and drain issues.
